Housing-first, coordinated casework and system navigation delivered through consistent relationships.
Praxis Youth operates on a housing-first model. We secure safe accommodation, provide long-term relational support and support young people to re-engage with education, employment and community life.
Phase 1: Intensive Casework
Upon entry, each young person works with a dedicated caseworker to develop a personalised plan aligned with Department of Communities and Justice requirements. We offer a discretionary tapered rental subsidy to ensure housing stability, and meet weekly to facilitate case-led mentoring, goal-setting and system navigation.
Phase 2: Co-Led Workshops
For participants who are ready to build skills and networks, Praxis Youth runs weekly workshops co-facilitated by volunteers and staff. Topics include financial literacy, job and career readiness, health and fitness planning, cooking and household maintenance. These sessions are designed to teach practical skills, while broadening support networks and breaking down stereotypes.
Phase 3: Transition & Evaluation
As young people stablise, we support them to maintain housing, pursue education or employment, and strengthen community connections. We taper our support, monitor progress and evaluate outcomes across housing, wellbeing and justice metrics.
Role of Caseworkers
Our caseworkers combine professional expertise and lived experience. Combining elements of casework and mentoring, they coordinate with external services, advocate within systems and provide consistent, trustworthy relationships. Caseworkers are accountable for assuring that each young person’s goals are pursed and barriers are addressed.
